How To Find Polruan
For Sat Nav use the postcode PL23 1PG.
If you are coming down the A30 turn off at Bodmin, take the A38 (marked Liskeard and Plymouth) as far as Dobwalls (then skip the next paragraph).
If you are coming from Plymouth on the A38 expressway, cross the Tamar Bridge and continue on the A38 towards Liskeard, stay on the A38 until Dobwalls, which is now bypassed.
At the main roundabout just past Dobwalls take the A390 marked St. Austell. About 1½ miles from Dobwalls on the A390 you go through East Taphouse. After the filling station, turn left (B3359) marked Looe/Polperro/Polruan. Drive about 5 miles and take a right at a 'Y' fork marked Lerryn, Bodinnick and Polruan and after about 4 miles you will see a turn to the left (by a phone box) marked Polruan. Follow the signs for about another 3 miles. (You may take a dramatic but very narrow short cut through a right turn to PONT). Once you have passed the "Polruan" sign, drive right down the road into the village.
Arriving in Polruan
Chapel Lane is a narrow lane on the right as you go down Fore Street, about 100 metres from the bottom. Corner Cottage is the large white house at the top of Chapel Lane on the right. There is no vehicular access to Chapel Lane, so ignore the final instruction from your Sat Nav.
If you are travelling light you can park your car and walk your luggage to the house. There is a good and reasonably secure car park at the top of the hill, St Saviour’s, but you have to pay. It is signed as you come into the village. Alternatively, there is a less secure free car park at the top of the village just off the main road. It is also a longer walk to the house.
The St Saviour's car park only takes cash. The machine by the hut at the entrance does take notes but does not give change. However, there is also an honesty box where you can leave payment or a note for the attendant.
If you have more luggage and stuff you need to take your car down Fore Street and stop at the bottom of Chapel Lane, unload and leave things there and then move the car before returning to take your burdens up Chapel Lane to the house. Sometimes you can leave the car at the bottom of Fore Street without blocking it until ready to take it up to the car park.
